Seal hunting to draw tourists in Norway

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Norway’s parliament, the Storting, has approved a proposal to make seal hunting a tourist attraction.

The resolution allows foreigners to take part in the hunt. Applicants will have to qualify, and need certified guides.

“We fear that this will become an exclusive hunt just for those with fat wallets, and that those who have hunted seal for generations will not be able to afford to participate,” Rolf Kollstrøm from the Norwegian Hunter and Fisherman Association, told the Aftenposten.
