Straight to the heart
The fourth-most-popular photo of 2019 on the Nunatsiaq News Facebook page: Dr. Donna May Kimmaliardjuk dissects a caribou heart for Inuksuk high school students as part of a health careers camp in Iqaluit on May 10. Kimmarliardjuk is a cardiac surgery resident at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and will be the first Inuk cardiac surgeon in Canada. She spent two days in Iqaluit talking with students about the different pathways to a career in health care. (Photo by Sarah Rogers)

Donna makes me proud to be an Inuk but our MP who goes around crying that all we do is suffering and need rehab. We’re not. Nunavumiut can do something with their lives or stay home and whine. Donna didn’t stay home. She raised herself up. What university did MP complete? What long-term jobs did she do? Tired of us being called colonial victims. We’re not. Tired of calling us victims. Thank you Donna for a positive example.
They are both good. Its true about inuks pulling themselfs up. We need more of the positives talk.
