Students cycle to support Nunavik suicide prevention
Donations raised through GoFundMe will go towards Isuarsivik Regional Recovery Centre
Students in Nunavik’s school board are seeking donations for a cycle-a-thon in support of mental health.
On Feb. 4, the group from Kativik Ilisarniliriniq will take part in an indoor cycling event along with students from Montmorency College and John Abbott College, where the event will be held.
Called “Cycle to End the Cycle,” the event takes place during Suicide Prevention Month.
The funds raised by student cyclists will go toward the Isuarsivik Regional Recovery Centre. A new facility is underway for the centre in Kuujjuaq that works with people from across Nunavik to recover from trauma and addiction.
The students will cycle from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the event will include traditional music and wellness activities, with a focus on mental health awareness.
Donations can be made at their GoFundMe page: https://ca.gofundme.com/f/ne7rw-a-cause-i-care-about-needs-help
It seems like Isuarsivik is the answer to all of Nunavik’s issues these days. How many clients go take the program anyway? Not everybody! So why is all the funding going there? We need help too in the communities!! We’re always in the backburners of Kuujjuaq
Why in south again?
Isn’t suicide turn out is in Northern communities?
Someone really should Facebook surf and search suicidal postings, some or many willing to give up, due to boyfriend, girlfriend problems, some youth crying for help, many feels abandoned by their parents due to their heavy drinking.
There should be Facebook message board, people reporting suicidal on facebook, and that suicidal must get faced, this is becoming too much.
Some women wanting to give up life because their boyfriend(s) are quitting their relationships, becoming single parent(s) no support, this is heavy to handle!
