A 21-year-old Taloyoak man is facing firearms charges after allegedly discharging a weapon within the Nunavut community on April 11.

Lawrence Kootook was arrested without incident, according to an RCMP news release. He appeared before a justice of the peace on Monday, April 15, and was “released with several conditions.”

The RCMP had received a report on April 11 that Kootook had fired several rounds within the hamlet and fled the scene. The shots fired had caused no injuries.

He was charged with discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life, as well as “several other criminal code offences.”

Kootook’s next scheduled court appearance is on July 15 in Taloyoak.
