Driver has been arrested for impaired driving, say RCMP

A woman has been hospitalized with significant injuries following a hit-and-run in Iqaluit Tuesday evening.
At around 5:35 p.m., police responded to a report of a person being hit by a car around building 159, near the Quickstop on Nipisa Road.
When they arrived, police found a woman with significant injuries, but the driver had fled.
The victim was transported to Qikiqtani General Hospital, where she is now in stable condition, according to an RCMP news release.
Police got information from the public about the suspected driver of the vehicle and arrested him at his home.
The suspect faces five charges: impaired driving, impaired driving over 80 mgs of alcohol, dangerous operation causing bodily harm, failure to stop after an accident that causes bodily harm and driving while prohibited.
He is being held for a bail hearing, the RCMP release states.
This is what happens when the perpetrators of crime are not shamed, they believe they are more important than there victims.
Not sure what you mean, but I believe this is what happens when an idiot drinks and drives.
What is going on in this town? Too many people driving drunk or under some sort of substance. Few weeks back someone was hit near the hospital by a drunk driver. Its really not that hard to call a taxi or a friend to give you a ride if you are intoxicated. Know your limits, and don’t drive if you consumed drugs or alcohol. Period. Stop being stupid and endangering peoples lifes!
Mayor and Council need to direct the City Staff to switch from Day time patrol to overnight. Having a patrolling Bylaw Enforcement overnight would be a preventative action. Sure day time may result in more revenue for the city giving tickets, but Bylaw is for public safety not revenue generations. Get the bylaw working nights!
The city could earn some revenue by cracking down on all the unsafe vehicles. Too many broken headlights, taillights, turn signals, registration stickers from 2016. It wouldn’t be tolerated on southern roads.

I know what your implying but the beer store has nothing to do with drinking and driving, there has been lots of D&D happening here in IQ long before the beer store arrived.

They need to put these people in jail for a long time and make them think twice about drinking and driving again. Giving them a slap on the wrist won’t deter them from D&D again and possibly killing someone the next time.
Why is the person name that is charged not released. it boggles the mind how they will release names of some people and not others. This is a serious offence and the public has the right to know.
It isn’t hard to find the name. Have a look through the court dockets. They are available to the general public. Google Nunavut courts. The charges will be shown as numbers in the criminal code. Look at the dates around three time off this incident, maybe even a week or two after. You can figure out what the charges are by googling “criminal code” and the number. There should be a whole bunch of charges starting with the number 320 next to this person’s name (eg. 320.14, 320.16, etc).
Google some of the other numbers on the docket too. You will be shocked at what you see on the court dockets. Lots of 271’s (sexual assault) and 151 (sexual assault of a child), and tons of 277 (assault). This is all available to the public. Innocent until proven guilty though, but very eye opening.
