Nunavut’s chief coroner says a 12-year-old girl died last month in Taloyoak from an accidental gunshot wound to the chest.
Khen Sagadraca confirmed the cause of death on June 4, and said his office did not conduct an autopsy.
He said the wound was inflicted by another person.
Nunavut RCMP reported a sudden death in that community on May 15, but did not provide any details about the circumstances of the death.
Police said the incident was “not suspicious in nature.”
Nunavut police said June 1 that the force continues to investigate the incident.
The community’s mayor, Chuck Pizzo-Lyall, declined to comment on the death.

Have any charges been laid against the gun owner? If not, why not? Negligence caused death.
