Igloolik-based movie gets film-festival honours
Film focuses on 2 sisters separated by distance as they try to heal from past trauma

The Igloolik-based film Tautuktavuk (What We See) has been honoured again, this time with the Sun Jury Award at the 2023 ImagineNATIVE Film Festival.
The movie centres on two sisters, one living in Igloolik and the other in Montreal. The story is about their attempts to heal from past trauma.
The film was co-directed by Lucy Tulugarjuk and Carol Kunnuk, who also star in the movie with Benjamin Kunuk and Madeline Ivalu.
“I would like to say thank you to all the people who made the festival happen, and I’m honoured we have received this award,” said Kunnuk, who was also the film’s co-writer, in a news release announcing the award.
The Sun Jury Award recognizes outstanding work, regardless of the film’s length or genre, according to the release.
Tautuktavuk (What We See) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, winning the Amplify Voices BIPOC & Canadian First Feature Award.
In a previous interview with Nunatsiaq News, Tulugarjuk said one of her motivations for the film was to show what present-day Igloolik looks like and the experiences that Inuit go through.
The movie was produced with Kingulliit Productions and Isuma Productions in collaboration with Uvagut TV and Isuma Distribution International.
It is scheduled for theatrical release this winter or in the spring of 2024.
