Photo: Take a look at First Air’s new turboprop

Here’s a first look at the turboprop plane that First Air will acquire to replace its fleet of older ATR 72 and ATR 42-300 aircraft: the ATR 42-500, which carries a bigger payload. Though it’s popular around the world, the 42-500-series ATR is not used by any other airline in Canada, which means it must first be certified by Transport Canada. First Air’s first ATR 42-500, shown here, was bought from Nordic Aviation Capital and will likely go into service by the end of this year, the airline announced June 25.
