Nearly a week after 15-year-old Rico Akaleapik was reported missing, rescuers continue to search for the Pond Inlet youth.

Akaleapik was last seen Oct. 2 and was reported missing on Oct. 4, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. George Henrie said in an email Monday.

Nunavut Emergency Management, Canadian Rangers, the RCMP and local ground search and rescue teams have been looking for the missing teen since then.

Air surveillance planes were also deployed to aid in the search.

The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton, Ont., has deployed Canadian Coast Guard “assets” in the area, according to an RCMP update provided to Nunatsiaq News on Wednesday.

Akaleapik was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, black pants, blue headphones and black shoes. Anyone with information can contact Pond Inlet RCMP at 899-1111.
