Ten people were arrested on drug-related charges in Iqaluit as part of an RCMP investigation earlier this month.

Between Oct. 11 and 15, police carried out searches at eight homes and recovered drugs, weapons and cash, the RCMP said in a news release Friday.

The 10 people, whose ages range between 31 and 67, were charged with numerous offences including possession for the purpose of trafficking, trafficking a controlled substance, possession of proceeds of crime, conspiracy to commit drug trafficking, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The RCMP release did not specify the type of drugs or weapons that were found or the amount of drugs seized. It also did not say when the suspects would appear in court.

These operations are part of an ongoing effort to combat drug trafficking and protect public safety, the release said.

I sincerely hope that they nail these people to the cross. Importing drugs into Nunavut and ruining young people’s lives must be severely punished. In Kugluktuk and Cambridge Bay, drug pushers are as young at 12 and are terrorising residents and turning young people into addicts.

Its supply and demand. They (drug addicts) are demanding it so there has to be a supplier to sell it. Just don’t blame the supplier and dealer’s, you also have to blame the drug addicts that crave it and need it. They don’t need it. They choose to want it. They choose to live in a make believe world instead of living in reality. They don’t want to see and feel what the rest of the sober community is seeing and feeling. Stop playing the blame game. I have nobody to blame but myself when I chose to use and abuse alcohol and drugs. I also chose to break the law. I chose to be angry, resentful, hateful and sad. I did not choose to be living in a dysfunctional family or community where sexual abuse, sexual molestation, domestic violence, community violence, child abandonment existed. It was only when I got sober, away from alcohol and drugs that I could live in reality and start functioning as a “NORMAL” person with our daily struggles of pain, grief and powerlessness.

RCMP, Please get rest of those life destroyers all off the Nunavut streets and throw the key away plus do not allow them to keep their children, especially around bad drugs dealers. They should all be ashamed but pretty sure they are not even ashamed because money and addictions are stronger to them.
Some of the names I heard earlier today that got busted were always full of big toys not working etc. and always had everything from BOAT, TRCUKS and more. This Looks really good on them all especially 2 females that were always known to be full blown bullies in Iqaluit, and acted like they are the big bosses of all the Nunavummiut girls. The sister and the brother on the list I saw were always acting like they have everything and chin up high, but now hope their chin will be looking down in the jail.

There has been way too many younger generations committing suicided due to hard drugs especially in the last few years, because hard drugs is too easy to access now in Iqaluit and all over the Nunavut Territory. There was never any machine guns in Iqaluit or hand guns and now there is because the so called BIG drugs dealers are gangsters in Iqaluit now.

Cannot wait to see all their names posted as we all saw it on FB and hope they will never put their foot back on the Iqaluit ground, and stay in Jail to think hard about how they have been destroying families all over Nunavut.

Nunatsiaq News, Please withheld my email and name.

Nunavummiut face so many hardships as it is. While there is a big talk about Inuit women’s safety, it’s no brainer that it’s a toxic cycle of hurt people hurting people. I’m not making excuses for the perpetrators but it stems from somewhere. I believe dealers/BULLIES like these people are fueling the broken and creating a toxic cycle. Us northerners deserve a safe place to heal.

It’s a bid odd that the police don’t describe the type of drugs seized, the quantity, the amount of cash or the types of weapons seized. That information is always included in these press releases and for good reason: We should know just how serious the drug problem is here as is evidenced by this bust. Why not let the public know about that??

I wish the rcmp in Nunavut communities would do the same not only in Iqaluit. Drugs and drug dealers are ruining the lives. I have high hopes for the rcmp busting drug dealers in every Nunavut communities.

GN increased its budget to $7.5 million for out of territory assistance for drug recovery and mental health services. If you’re an addict – let a doctor doctor know and go get help. It’s all paid for.

Lost everything to crack and I’ve never even done it. My house, money, community, father to my children. It’s the worst 👎

Anyone who takes the time to look around know that the hard drug useage problem is everywhere and it is making life bad for all of us, not only the casual and addicted users. Every effort within reason and the law including our press (NN) need be applied to root out the problem. Anything short of our full attention exposes our youth to a problem not of their making, but of our, the adults, legacy. Take responsibility, do your part to battle on against the thoughtless people profiting from the hard drug business. Good luck, best wishes, our children need it and are counting on us.
