Indigenous services minister heads to Kuujjuaq for announcement

Mandy Gull-Masty’s update will ‘support and empower Inuit communities,’ says media advisory

By Nunatsiaq News

Indigenous Services Minister Mandy Gull-Masty is expected in Kuujjuaq Thursday afternoon for an announcement.

It’s unclear what the announcement will be, but a media advisory released Wednesday by her department says it is aimed to “support and empower Inuit communities across Inuit Nunangat.”

She is scheduled to appear Thursday afternoon during Kativik Regional Government’s quarterly meeting, which is ongoing this week.

The federal Department of Indigenous Services has been under fire for the past year over the uncertain future of the Inuit Child First Initiative, which provides health and educational support to Inuit children and youth. No funding is in place for Inuit Child First Initiative beyond March 31, 2026.

Gull Masty has said her department was working to “redefine” delivery of the program and make it permanent.

WOW! Our MP for the region is visiting today. This is great news.

I remember our previous MP took 3+ years after her election to venture into Kuujjuaq.

You know what else would support and empower Inuit communities? More responsible parents. Family planning. Structured home and learning environments.

Politicians, mayors and councils have to understand the reality and be smart. Know everything from TB hospitals, our Inuit in the pass, today’s society, and everything.
