RCMP say a 28-year-old Baker Lake man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 45-year-old George Narkyagik in the community last week.
Richard Niuqtuq was arrested Monday and is in custody, RCMP spokesperson Sgt. George Henrie said in a news release.
Officers responded to a call last Thursday about an unresponsive male shortly after 5 a.m., said a news release from the police issued over the weekend.
Narkyagik was transported to the health centre, where he was pronounced dead.
The Nunavut RCMP’s major crime unit took over the investigation. The release did not indicate a cause of death.
Niuqtuq’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 27 in Iqaluit.
