Government offices in several communities remain closed Tuesday due to blizzard conditions
Spring blizzard rolled into parts of Nunavut and Nunavik Monday afternoon

Blizzard conditions continue to impact parts of Nunavut Tuesday morning.
Territorial government offices in Pangnirtung, Baker Lake, Rankin Inlet, Iqaluit, Igloolik, Chesterfield Inlet, Sanirajak, Whale Cove and Arviat remain closed after shutting down Monday afternoon.
The Government of Nunavut provided the emailed updates early Tuesday morning.
The severe weather was forecast to persist across the Kivallaq Region Tuesday, with 70 km/h winds gusting to 90 km/h, easing later in the evening.
Arviat, Baker Lake, Chesterfield Inlet, Gjoa Haven, Kugaaruk, Igloolik, Naujaat, Pangnirtung, Rankin Inlet, Whale Cove remained in a blizzard warning while Clyde River was in a blizzard watch, according to Environment Canada.
Conditions were expected to ease earlier in southern Baffin communities. Kimmirut, which was in a blizzard warning Monday, already saw easing conditions Tuesday morning with 30 km/h winds gusting to 50 km/h.
Iqaluit experienced a power outage during the blizzard Monday night that lasted approximately 90 minutes in parts of the city. Weather in the city was expected to clear in the morning as well.
City of Iqaluit offices and its recreation facilities were closed on Tuesday morning, a public service announcement said.
Snow removal operators were out to clear roads and trucked services were on standby, ready to resume operations once it is safe to do so, the city’s statement added.
In Nunavik, skies had cleared Tuesday morning in parts of the region that were under a blizzard warning Monday. Kuujjuaq’s forecast for Tuesday is sunny skies with a high of -12 C and 20 km/h winds.
