The death of a man in Iqaluit last August is being investigated as a homicide.
Mosesie “Levi” Pishuktie, 35, was found by paramedics and police with “serious injuries” at 2:50 a.m. on Aug. 16, 2025, at a residence on Tasilik Street in Tundra Ridgee, RCMP said Friday in a news release.
Pishuktie was taken to Qikiqtani General Hospital, then medevaced to Ottawa where he died on Aug. 25.
The RCMP did not publicly announce then that it was treating Pishuktie’s death as a homicide.
However, on Friday, RCMP spokesperson Sgt. George Henrie said in an email that Pishuktie’s “cause of death was treated as a homicide in August 2025.”
“In order to protect the integrity of the investigation, the evidence obtained, and the privacy of those involved, the RCMP generally would not comment during the course of an investigation,” Henrie said.
“In some circumstances information might be provided to the public, for example in an effort to seek further information from the public.”
The RCMP’s major crime unit is leading the investigation.
