A missing 10-year-old girl has been found dead on the outskirts of Sanirajak.

On Thursday, police learned the girl was missing and that she had last been seen on Monday, RCMP said in a news release Friday.

After a seven-hour search by officers and local volunteers, the child’s body was found at around 9:40 p.m. in the outskirts of the community.

“We are working with the Nunavut coroner’s office to determine the cause of death,” RCMP spokesperson Sgt. George Henrie said in an email Friday.

He declined to provide further details.
