A new commissioner is joining Nunavik’s school board to represent Inukjuak.

Nancy Palliser was sworn in Monday as a member of Kativik Ilisarniliriniq’s council of commissioners, the board announced Wednesday.

The council is the highest authority at the school board. It is made of 14 public representatives — one from each Nunavik community — who serve a three-year mandate.

Palliser succeeds Stephane Lacasse, who resigned, the board’s news release said. It did not indicate the reason for Lacasse’s resignation.

Kativik Ilisarniliriniq provides educational services to all Nunavik residents in Inuktitut as a first language and in French and English as second languages. It operates 18 primary and secondary schools and six adult education centres across the region.
