The accidental death of a six-year-old girl has thrown everyone in the close-knit Ungava Bay community of Quaqtaq into deep mourning.
On April 13, a young girl died after she was hit by a front-end loader at the airport in the community, which has a population of about 400.
The Kativik Regional Government said a man, driving a front-end loader owned by the Northern Village of Quaqtaq was removing snow in the area.
“Sadly, the young victim succumbed to her injuries, and was pronounced dead at the CLSC,” said an April 15 statement from the KRG, which oversees municipal affairs in Nunavik.
The driver of the front-end loader was related to the girl.
“We are coping best we can, and we will prevail against this tragedy,” said the grief-stricken father of the driver on Facebook.
