Nunavut’s Health Department issued a boil water advisory for Taloyoak due to the mechanical failure of a pump at the water treatment plant.

Any water used for consumption must be brought to a rolling boil for a minimum of one minute, either on the stove or with a kettle that does not have an automatic shut off, according to the advisory.

The advisory applies to water for drinking, preparing infant formulas, making juice or ice cubes, washing produce, cooking and brushing teeth.

Residents are also reminded that a camp stove should be used outdoors to avoid the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Health Department will notify community members when the boil advisory has been lifted.
