A man from Chambly, Que., and a woman from Kangiqsujuaq could face charges following a police investigation into the illegal possession and sale of alcohol.

The Sûreté du Québec’s Contraband Investigation Unit, working with the Nunavik Police Service, searched a property in Kangiqsujuaq on Wednesday.

The investigation, which began in June, also led to a search in Chambly on Tuesday, after investigators determined the two cases were linked.

The searches resulted in the seizure of nearly eight litres of various alcoholic beverages and close to $12,000 in Canadian currency, according to a news release issued Thursday by the Quebec provincial police.

The individuals involved are a 34-year-old man from Chambly and a 32-year-old woman from Kangiqsujuaq. The news release did not provide their names. They could face charges related to illegal possession of alcohol and selling it without the required permits under Quebec’s Act respecting offences relating to alcoholic beverages.
