Photo: Protesters gather in front of housing bureau in Kuujjuaq

Kuujjuaq residents gather outside the community’s Kativik Municipal Housing Bureau office Thursday morning to protest recent rent increases and evictions carried out by the agency that oversees social housing in Nunavik. Some of the signs read “Food or rent? Often a choice we have to make” and “We are going homeless.” The protest comes a week after the KMHB destroyed the shack where a Quaqtaq man was living after he was evicted from his social housing unit earlier in the summer.
