Photo: Snowsnake try-outs on in Kuujjuaq

Junior Angutinguak from Aupaluk competes in the snowsnake event Nov. 23 outside of Kuujjuaq’s Katittavik town hall, where Arctic Winter Games trials are taking place this weekend. The snowsnake is a traditional Dene game where the athlete has to throw a spear-like stick so it slides as far as possible along the snow. Trials were expected to continue Nov. 24 despite a blizzard moving through the region. The top athletes from this weekend’s events will be selected to compete for Team Nunavik-Québec at the 2014 AWG in Fairbanks, Alaska. (PHOTO BY ISABELLE DUBOIS)
