Tenille, the 19-year-old country singer prodigy from Grande Prairie, Alberta, stopped by Aqsarniit Middle School in Iqaluit Nov. 27 as part of her Play It Forward concert series. Her 60-minute presentation “uses music and story telling to spark interest, ignite change, and fuel passion while recognizing positive leadership efforts of our nation’s youth,” according to her website. Tenille was nominated for female artist of the year in 2011 and interactive artist of the year in 2013 by the Canadian Country Music Association. Up to three students from each school she visits on tour are put into a draw for a $10,000 prize — $5,000 to go to a charity, and the rest to in-school programs. Tenille is also scheduled to play in Pangnirtung Nov. 28. (PHOTO BY DAVID MURPHY)
