Photo: Sandy Akavak gets a Diamond Jubilee medal

Nunavut Premier Eva Aariak presents a Diamond Jubilee medal to Sandy Akavak of Kimmirut. The medal recognizes Akavak’s contribution to the well-being of Nunavummiut and Nunavut and for his service as a special constable with the RCMP, an April 4 Government of Nunavut news release said. In 2012 Aariak will give out 55 of these medals, issued during the 60th anniversary year of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, to outstanding Nunavummiut. (PHOTO COURTESY OF THE GN)
