Film day at Alianait
Friday, June 23. Ajiit Nunavut Media Association presents, at 3 p.m. at Nakasuk School, a screening of the award-winning Takuginai Series produced by the Inuit Broadcasting Corp. 20 years ago.
At 5:15 p.m. at the Astro Theatre they will present Finding Franklin, a 90-minute documentary on the ill-fated British explorer filmed partly in Iqaluit. Admission is free.
That screening is followed by two premier screenings, for invited guests and a limited number of the public.
At 7 p.m., “Staking the Claim,” a 25-minute documentary on the making of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, produced by Nunavut Sivuniksavut and Entheos Films.
“Inuit Pigungit” will follow. This hour-long documentary, shot by Zach Kunuk and Bernadette Miqqusaaq Dean, captures Inuit elders and researchers visiting museums holding Inuit artifacts.
