City staff monitor new snowfence
A month has passed since city workers erected several sections of bright-orange snow fencing to protect homes off the Road from Nowhere from being buried in snow drifts.
Construction of the fence was scheduled for mid-December, but delayed for about a month because the wrong type of plastic mesh was shipped up.
City workers will continue to monitor the drifts by taking “aerial photos” using the fire truck’s ladder, said public works director Mark Hall. “We’ll be monitoring it constantly.”
If the drifts encroach past the fence and towards the homes, workers will move in with snow blowers, Hall said.
Meanwhile, city staff have also sent leaflets to residents reminding them that clearing driveways and back yards isn’t the city’s responsibility.
The fence cost just under $40,000, leaving city workers with a $10,000 surplus from the project. That money will be used erecting smaller fences in other locations, like along the Road to Nowhere itself and along the road to Apex.
