Crown Princess receives Greenlandic national outfit

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

An elaborate outfit, hand sewn by 15 Greenlandic women, was presented to the future Crown Princess of Denmark, Mary Donaldson, this week at Amalienborg Palace in Denmark.

Agnethe Davidsen, the mayor of Nuuk, and two of the 15 women who sewed the outfit presented the wedding gift.

It also included a Greenlandic anorak with matching kamiks for Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik.

The outfit for women consists of sealskin pants and kamiks, worn with a silk-covered quilted tunic and a lace and glass-beaded collar.

Outfits can take several years to complete, but Donaldson’s costume was finished in just two months.
