Time zone change a stab in the back
The Nunavut government was put in place by the public and has a mandate to protect the public’s best interests. It has just stabbed the public in the back.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s time for a reality check — the world does not revolve around the government of Nunavut. In fact, the very idea of changing the time zone to accommmodate government business is absurd.
Since when can a major decision, such as changing the time zone, be made without public opinion?
Has this government even considered the consequences that such a major change will have on local businesses and the public in general? Did the government even stop to consider the amount of trade and commerce done with Ontario and Quebec versus western Nunavut?
The bottom line is that the only benefit here will be for the government.
The elected government has done a great injustice to the people of Nunavut by going behind closed doors. It’s time the people took a stand and demanded that the elected body be accountable for its actions.
What will be the next major decision they will make without public consultation?
