Two men drown in Baker

IQALUIT — A boating accident claimed the lives of two young men from Baker Lake last weekend.

Edwin Putumiraqtuq, 19, and James Kablalik (Joedee), 18, were seen leaving Baker Lake about 4:30 a.m., July 14, with fishing gear but no life jackets. They were seen again at about 3:30 p.m. near the Baker Lake campground. At 5 p.m. their canoe was spotted overturned and empty.

Search and Rescue and the RCMP searched the lake and found the bodies Sunday morning.

Foul play is not suspected.
