Craig hopes oldies are golden with new Iqaluit station
Iqaluit is a young town, but Glenn Craig is going with oldies for his second radio station.
The CRTC announced Monday it’s approved an application from Craig, who already owns Top 40 station CKIQ, to start an oldies-format FM station in Iqaluit.
The new station would broadcast at 103.5 FM. According to the CRTC decision, the station is to offer seven hours per week of Inuktitut programming, as well as “news reports from safety and security professionals, health officers and municipal councils.”
Craig’s application also stated the station might offer a call-in show in the future.
Under the terms of the license, the new station will have to make an annual contribution to the Iqaluit Music Society, as well as to FACTOR, the agency that provides funding to Canadian musicians.
Contributions to groups that promote music production are a standard part of commercial radio licenses.
