Police seize drugs, guns and money in Kuujjuaq
Kuujjuaq man faces charges of drug possession, drug trafficking, careless storage of firearms
Police in Kuujjuaq seized up drugs and guns in a March 31 raid, said an April 1 news release from Sûreté du Québec provincial police.
Officers from the SQ and the Kativik Regional Police Force seized more than five kilograms of marijuana and hashish, 15 firearms, cash, and drug production equipment in a raid carried out on three different Kuujjuaq residences.
Police also arrested Allan York, 55.
York later appeared at the Kuujjuaq courthouse on charges of drug possession, drug trafficking and careless storage of firearms.
York, who used to run a garage in Kuujjuaq, more recently drove a school bus for the Kativik School Board.
Police say the searches and seizures followed an investigation that began in the community more than a year ago after police received a tip from a member of the public.
As the police investigation continues, more arrests could be made in the coming weeks, SQ news release said.
The SQ is asking Nunavimmiut who have information on drug trafficking or production activities in Nunavik to make a confidential report at 1-800-659-4264.
