RCMP in Arviat, one of Nunavut’s dry communities, have made another alcohol seizure in the Kivalliq community.

On July 30, members of Arviat RCMP detachment responded to call about a disturbance at a residence and arrested two intoxicated males there, said an Aug. 4 news release from the RCMP.

Further investigation revealed a back pack containing 15 375 mL “mickey” bottles of spirits, with an estimated street value of these mickeys totalled $1,500, it said.

Eric Kigusiutak, 43, has been charged with the unlawful sale of liquor and will appear Oct. 24 before the Nunavut Court of Justice in Arviat.

Also last month, RCMP in Arviat were able to stop two separate shipments of alcohol from entering the community.
