A nine-year old boy in Igloolik is dead after sliding into the path of a water truck shortly after 4 p.m. April 6.

The boy slid down a driveway on to a road, where a hamlet sewage truck, driven by a hamlet employee with more than 20 years’ experience, hit him.

The RCMP received a call about the incident, but when tmembers arrived on the scene, the boy had already been taken to the local health clinic, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are continuing their investigation into circumstances around the incident, but Sgt. Les Brushette of the RCMP detachment said it was clear that the driver of the truck had no time to react before the boy slid into his path.

The name of the boy is being withheld until all his family members can be notified, Brushette said.
