RCMP arrest shooter in Pond Inlet
A 19-year old man now faces kidnapping, firearms charges
A young Pond Inlet man faces firearms and kidnapping charges following an incident May 29 in which several shots were fired in the community, RCMP said in a press release issued June 6.
Jeremiah Atagootak, 19 of Pond Inlet, has been charged with pointing a firearm, careless use of firearm, carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, unlawful possession of a firearm, disturbing the peace, kidnapping with a firearm, possession weapon for a dangerous purpose, and theft of a vehicle over $5,000.
Atagootak appeared May 31 before a justice of the peace Pond Inlet, after which he was remanded into custody.
He will appear before the Nunavut Court Justice in Iqaluit June 7.
