Fire damages Iqaluit apartment house

An early morning fire Aug. 7 left a one-storey apartment building in the West 40 section of Iqaluit charred and empty.

At about 4:23 a.m. on Sunday morning, members of the Iqaluit RCMP and the Iqaluit Fire Department responded to the fire, at building 2017, located across the street from Nunavut Auto.

All known tenants were accounted for, and no one was reported injured, an RCMP news release said.

But the RCMP, along with the fire marshall, are still investigating the fire, although criminal activity is not suspected, police said.
