Candidates announced for QIA elections

It’s an all-High Arctic race for the vice presidency of the Qikiqtani Inuit Association.

Current QIA VP and former Resolute Bay mayor George Eckalook will take on Levi Barnabas, the former Quttiktuq MLA, and Malachi Arreak, the former senior administrative officer of Pond Inlet.

In Pangnirtung, there’s a six-way race for the community director position. Incumbent Rita Mike is taking on Hezakiah Oshutapik, Jaypatee Qappik, Jonah Kilabuk, Lasalosie Ishulutak and Norman Komoartok.

Voting day is Dec. 13. Both positions come with three-year terms. Beneficiaries 16 and older are eligible to vote.

Candidates can withdraw from the race until Nov. 12.
