The winners of next month’s Nunavik School Games, for students living in the region’s 14 communities, will also compete for prizes in healthy living and sportsmanship.

Young athletes will compete in at least five sports, including running, volleyball, soccer, basketball and floor hockey, from April 7 to April 13 in Kuujjuaraapik.

At the same time, there will be a focus on healthy living during the games, say organizers from the Kativik School Board and the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services.

During the games, Nunavik’s regional department of public health plans to organize awareness activities on different themes, including nutrition, diabetes, smoking and infectious diseases.

And the Nunavik School Games Cup will be awarded to the school that racks the most health points, while a Sports Ethics Cup will be given to the school that best demonstrates sportsmanship.
