130 summer student jobs
The Department of Human Resources held a workshop on Oct. 20 to discuss expanding the summer student employment program.
This summer, 130 students were hired out of 592 applicants, Minister Louis Tapardjuk reported to the legislative assembly last Thursday.
Costs for the program “far exceeded” the $70,000 budget, Tapardjuk said.
Tapardjuk also noted that out of 130 students, 105 were Inuit, the highest rate of Inuit employment since the program started in 1999.
“This speaks well for a future territory with a higher educated and greater skilled workforce,” Tapardjuk said.
