Two men tried to use “weapon” to rob man of cigarettes

The RCMP in Iqaluit have put out a call to the public in the hope that someone can provide information about a robbery and assault that occurred in during the early hours of July 12.

Members of the Iqaluit detachment were dispatched July 12 at about 2:30 a.m. to respond to a call about a male suffering from minor injuries as the result of an assault “with the threat of a weapon,” the RCMP said July 13 in a news release.

The man, 24, who was taken to Qikiqtani General Hospital for minor treatment, said two men tried to rob him of his cigarettes.

The incident occured in the 800s area of the city.

Both suspects are described as men in their early to mid 20’s, wearing black hoodies and jeans.

One of the men was riding a grey bicycle, police said.
