Aglukkaq hands out CanNor money for tourism
“These projects increase opportunities for Nunavummiut”
Five tourism projects in Nunavut are sharing a pot of money from the federal government, Leona Aglukkaq, Nunavut’s MP and minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency said June 13.
The $200,000 from CanNor will help build capacity and strengthen the tourism sector, Aglukkaq said.
“The Government of Canada is proud to support the tourism industry, because it makes an important contribution to the Nunavut economy,” Aglukkaq said in a news release. “These projects increase opportunities for Nunavummiut, ensuring they can continue to build a vibrant and diversified tourism sector and ultimately help create jobs and new business opportunities in the North.”
The money goes to five tourism-related projects across the territory:
• Nunavut Arctic College’s tourism hospitality program;
• Inuit Heritage Trust’s “Train the Trainer” program;
• the Hamlet of Kugluktuk for its feasibility study on building a visitor/cultural centre in the community;
• Nunavut Tourism’s member training; and,
• the Hamlet of Chesterfield Inlet for updating their tourism marketing material.
