Police made two arrests in Resolute Bay March 11 after responding to a call about an intoxicated man at a local hotel.

There, members of the local RCMP found a man, 34 who was “highly intoxicated.” They arrested him and laid a charge of causing mischief under $5,000.

Police also found 1,992 grams of marijuana, nearly two kilograms, with an estimated street value of $180,000, and several bottles of alcohol which could be worth $3,400, if bootlegged in the community, police said.

Charges against the man are pending, with a court date set for June 15 in Resolute Bay before the Nunavut Court of Justice, the RCMP said in a March 15 news release.

A second man was also arrested for causing mischief under $5,000.

“He was in possession of one 60 oz. bottle of Smirnoff Vodka, possible charges pending against this individual, who was released at the same time,” the release said.
