Iqaluit police reel in escaped inmate
An Iqaluit man who walked away from police custody was recaptured without incident April 17.
Samolie Lucassie, 18, was free from Iqaluit’s youth correctional centre on an escorted pass to the weekend Toonik Tyme hockey tournament, when he slipped out of police custody April 16.
Lucassie is in remand for charges on offences allegedly committed while he was a youth. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, police couldn’t say exactly what he’d been charged with, but said some counts included allegations of violence.
RCMP said public tips led them to the man. Lucaussie was to be returned to remand at the youth April 18, and could face a charge of being unlawfully at large.
