Two British Columbia men aged 18 and 19 have been charged in connection with a home invasion in the Apex neighbourhood of Iqaluit.

On June 12 at 8:37 p.m., Iqaluit RCMP received a report that two men wearing masks broke into a residence and assaulted residents inside before fleeing on an all-terrain vehicle, RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.

Officers located two suspects a short time later and arrested them without incident.

One person inside the home suffered non-life-threatening injuries, RCMP Sgt. George Henrie told Nunatsiaq News on Wednesday.

Abdulhadi Ayash, 18, and Yahya Al-Khafaji, 19, are each charged with break and enter, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, wearing a face covering while committing an indictable offence, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

They are being held in custody and were scheduled to appear in court in Iqaluit on Wednesday.

“This matter is believed to be isolated, with all parties being known to each other,” said Cpl. Rodney MacIntyre of the Iqaluit RCMP’s General Investigative Section in the news release.

There are some very good people that come up here but lately I’ve been noticing so many who come here are not interested in this place at all to help make it a better place but to use it and profit from it.
    It’s really not helping.
