Two men were killed in a collision between two snowmobiles in Kangiqsualujjuaq the night of Jan. 13, officials say.

The vehicles were travelling at high speed and both victims were ejected from their snowmobiles, Geneviève Thériault, coroner for northern Quebec, told Nunatsiaq News on Tuesday.

She said both men — one 17, the other 25 — were dead when they were found.

Nunavik Police Services Capt. Patrice Abel said the body of one of the men was found at the scene, while the other man was located later nearby.

Abel said foul play is not suspected and police are not investigating further. The names of the victims, or whether anyone else was involved in the incident, were not released by the coroner’s office.

The community has been devastated by drugs alcohol and violence in the past months., now more devastating occurs. It appears the two fatalities, were the only victims and were drivers of their own snowmobiles, no innocent child struck or other innocent citizens along the side of the roads.
