“Life in the Arctic” theme inspires Nunavut photographers
The winning landscapes, wildlife, communities and people will appear in 2011 Arctic Co-op calendar
Fourteen amateur photographers from Nunavut and the Northwest Territories will see their photos featured in the 2011 Arctic Co-operatives calendar.
Contest entrants were asked to send their best photos capturing something they love about “Life in the Arctic” for the 2011 or 2012 co-op calendars.
The first round of the contest produced 14 photos for the cover and inside pages of the 2011 calendar.
Millie Traub’s photo of a ptarmigan will be featured on the cover, said Ann Wheddon, manager of communications for the Arctic Co-operatives.
The other winners were: Joyce Angalik (Arviat), Doris Angohiatok (Cambridge Bay), Anneliese Cusack (Repulse Bay), Eliz Issakiark (Arviat), Bernice Marlow (Lutsel K’e), Timonie Pikuyak (Hall Beach), Gabriel Nirlungayuk (Rankin Inlet), Rhoda Angootealuk (Coral Harbour), Tara Natuk Angidlik (Rankin Inlet), Millie Traub (Cambridge Bay) and Mark Needham (Yellowknife).
Chitee Kilabuk of Pangnirtung received an honourable mention.
The 2011 calendar is expected to be available at the local co-op stores across Nunavut by mid-November, Wheddon said, while cpies can also be obtained direct through Arctic Co-op’s Winnipeg office.
