Iqaluit snowmobiler, 77, injured in collision with SUV

A 77-year-old Iqaluit man has been hospitalized following an accident in front of the Northmart store April 26, when he drove his snowmobile into the path of an oncoming sports utility vehicle.

The driver of the snowmobile, whose name has not been released, was stopped on the shoulder of the road, waiting to cross.

When he attempted to cross the road, he was struck by the oncoming SUV, driven by another elderly male from Iqaluit, according to an April 26 news release from the RCMP.

The driver of the snowmobile was taken to the hospital with undetermined injuries, the news release said, while the driver of the SUV did not suffer any injuries.

Police say their investigation into the incident continues, and that until the investigation wraps up, the names of the two drivers involved and details about injuries will be withheld.
