Temporary CIBC branch opens March 30 in Kuujjuaq

March 6 fire forced Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce bank’s move to a new location

Three weeks after a fire that levelled Kuujjuaq’s only full-service bank, a new branch is once again open for business.

The temporary branch of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce opens March 30 at 570 Katingajitt Road.

That’s steps from the location of the former Airport Rd. branch, which was completely destroyed in an early morning fire March 6 said to have originated in the building’s furnace room.

The new CIBC branch, although temporary, offers regular branch services and a 24-hour automated banking machine, said CIBC spokesman Geoff Dillon.

So any service charges CIBC clients incurred for using non-CIBC automated teller machines before March 29 can be reimbursed by contacting CIBC at 1-800-465-2422.

With the new CIBC automated teller operational, Kuujjuaq’s CIBC customers no longer need to use non-CIBC banking machines, Dillon said.

Dillion credited the hard work of CIBC’s local employees for getting the new bank branch up and running so quickly.

“We want to thank our clients in Kuujjuaq for their patience and understanding over these last few weeks,” Dillon said. “We are grateful for the support the community has shown and we are pleased to be reopening to meet the needs of our clients.”

Kuujjuaq’s CIBC branch offers full services Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm.
