5 Nunavik companies to split $1.7M in federal funding
Money announced in commemoration of National Indigenous History Month in June
Five Nunavik companies will split close to $1.75 million from the Government of Canada in an effort to develop Inuit entrepreneurship.
The funding was announced June 13 in a news release from Soraya Martinez Ferrada, the minister responsible for the Economic Development Agency of Canada, Quebec regions.
Makivvik Corp. is set to receive $724,000, which is intended to be used to recruit two economic development officers for a three-year period.
Qiniqtiq Landholding Corp., of Kangiqsualujjuaq is receiving $375,000 to create a full-time position and participate in the development of the village.
Nursuti Inuit Business Development Hub, which provides business development services for Inuit in Kangiqsujuaq and Salluit, will receive $350,000 to cover a portion of operating costs, salaries and expenses related to its services, creating a new position in the process.
The Fédération des Coopératives du Nouveau-Québec is getting just under $200,000 to consolidate existing jobs.
Kuujjuaq-based exploration company Avataa-Rouillier Drilling Inc., is getting just under $100,000 to enable it to improve productivity.
“We are proud to highlight the work of Inuit entrepreneurs in Nunavik,” Ferrada said in the release.
“They help not only to create good jobs in the region, but also to raise their community’s profile daily and enrich Quebec society.”
The funding is meant to help commemorate National Indigenous History Month, which takes place throughout June.
More Free Money for these Inuit Organizations and most will not develop jobs that the money is intended for. We know where most of this money will be pocketed. Lets Go Makivik, Kangirsujuaq and Salluit. Spend the money like its your own personal Piggy Bank!!
It is sad that the great majority of this money will go to Inuit organisation that never have to account for results.
Only a very small part is going to a private company .
This is the Federal government way again.
Feed the powerful ones.
Thanks
This type of spending makes the Liberal party feel good. No mater it is total wasted off resources with no accountability. It is all about the optics.
At the end of the day yhis is why we have deficits of $50 billion and the liberals are 20 points behind in the polls.
Let me get this straight..
Makivik is pushing self determination down the throats of all Nunavimmiut, while at the same time, applying for handouts from the Feds to increase the revenue to themselves..
Thinking a bit deeper into this. The Federal handout will create economic activities designed to benefit Makivik, which in turn will increase the bonuses to the Execs.
