A 12-year-old boy has been charged with arson with damage to property in relation to a suspicious fire in Iqaluit Sept. 19, the RCMP reported Sept. 21.

The fire, which burned newly-arrived construction materials at a Nunastar construction site across from Arctic Ventures Marketplace in Iqaluit, burned late into Saturday night and was doused by Iqaluit firefighters.

Nunavut RCMP V Division provided few details in a Sept. 21 release except to say the youth was charged after a criminal investigation determined the fire had been deliberately set.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dave Lawson said the boy is expected to appear in Iqaluit youth court on Nov. 6.

In an unrelated incident, three youth aged 13 to 16 are facing several arson-related charges in connection with the Sept. 6 fire that leveled Peter Pitseolak High School in Cape Dorset.
