A big thanks to Iqaluit hockey coaches

I want to say a public thank you to a group of people who help make our community a better place to be: the men and the women who coach my kids’ hockey teams.

These are regular people, like us, who work jobs, have kids who need help with homework and have a million things to do around the house, yet they found the time and the generosity to come out — several times a week, eight months a year, in the cold, in the snow, in the winter darkness, on weekends and holidays to coach hockey.

They have never let the kids down. They taught them hockey and skating skills as well as good sportsmanship and team spirit. They created an environment where every child of every skill level was welcome and given the opportunity to play and feel good about themselves.

That is a pretty worthy achievement in my books. So to Matt Goodsell, head coach of both the Major Mites (age five to six) and Novice teams (age eight to nine) and to the assistant coaches of those teams, Kristal Allakariallak, Ian Allen, Paul Suvega, George Hicks , Mark Thompson, Mads Sandbakken, Luc Brisebois, Todd Janes, Natan Obed, and Dwayne Reeves ( as well as the equally deserving coaches of other levels of kids’ hockey in Iqaluit whose names are not known to me), I know I speak for many parents in saying a very sincere and heartfelt thank you.

Your efforts and dedication are recognized and are much appreciated.
