A special thank you to Nunavut teachers
“The supports you have continued to provide to our children are appreciated”
Every morning our children are dropped in our schools; some of those children have various challenges.
We have people who are with them in the schools from 8:30 in the morning to approximately 16:00 in the afternoon during the weekdays. Sometimes, some of us are late in picking those children up from the schools.
Probably, one of the most challenging jobs could be teaching. You work with children with varying degrees of understanding and attention but it is your duty to ensure each and every one of those children is given the opportunity to learn and develop.
Some of those children come to class sleepy, some come to class hungry, some need help standing up, some need help sitting down, some need help staying in one place, and some need help entering and coming down from the school buses.
Some even need help with toilet training because sometimes accidents might happen. Our teachers and their support staff are always there, providing our children with the support most of us found to be too common and simple, therefore taken for granted.
Most of us just drive those children to school, drop and pick them up without knowing how those kids managed the day. We take it for granted because we are used to picking them up and dropping them at the schools but some one, some people, are with those kids for the whole day.
Probably you may have two or three, or even four kids and you will know how rowdy your house has become. Just think of someone who was with not only four or five but sometimes 15 or even more children of various backgrounds, challenges and learning capabilities.
But they never complain. The children wake up every morning and want to go to school, which is a definite evident that they are enjoying the activities and lessons in our schools.
We need to say thank you to those people — our Nunavut teachers — making differences in our children’s life no matter what challenges our children brought to the classrooms; they are there for those kids.
The supports you have continued to provide to our children are appreciated.
My special thank you to my son’s teachers including Jason, Ria, Danielle, Sonya and all the teachers and support staff at Joamie School, Iqaluit. You are the finest!
